This past week I read something that I cannot stop thinking about.
"We do not see with our eyes; we see with our brains." -John Medina
Our eyes are easily deceived. Mirages, optical illusions, even children's books baffle us. Where is Waldo?!
The point is as humans we too often put our trust in things that should not be trusted. We trust our eyes when we should be trusting our brains.
While we're talking about girls and believing in ourselves I also wanted to share my reflections on this week's International Women's Day.
My thoughts are these: I love being a woman.
I'm happy to be a woman. It's a wonderful thing to be. Girls are special. Girls are priceless. Being one makes me smile.
I think everyone has a different definition of womanhood for them. This is mine: Women and girls have the capability to love and nurture each and every person they come in contact with. Do you know how powerful and amazing that is?! That love and nurturing may have many different faces to it. It should. I fail many times at loving and nurturing but I know I have the capacity to do it.
In the Christian faith, Eve is called the mother of all living before she ever has a single child. I love the idea of all us ladies walking around the planet taking care of whoever we come in contact with, whether it's a kind word, a shoulder to cry on, sharing our skills or talents, or just accepting someone. Just being female makes you a nurturer to those around you. It makes you a natural born leader in the best possible way.
To all the girls and women out there who may read this; keep loving. Keep laughing. Don't be afraid to be you.
May God bless the women and girls all over the world that they may be safe from harm so they can go about doing what they do best: making things better.
Happy reading.
